This year, the Belmont High School Performing Arts Company is putting on the high school rendition of Mean Girls the Musical. The musical follows many of the same plot points as the 2004 movie, as Tina Fey wrote the script for both. However, it also includes original music by Jeff Richmond and lyrics from Nell Benjamin. The show will occur on Thursday March 16 at 7 pm, Friday March 17 at 7 pm, and Saturday March 18 with a matinee performance at 2 pm and a final performance at 7 pm. Tickets can be Purchased on the PAC website and starting on Wednesday the 8th in the cafeteria.
Mean Girls takes on a new, powerful view of high school and social structures while also maintaining a comedic feel. It includes big dance numbers, powerful scenes and songs, a live pit band, and an impressive set design. Personally, I would recommend everyone to see it. However, Be advised the musical does contain certain themes such as bullying and mature situations, as well as strong language that may not be appropriate for all viewers with 6th grade and up as an age guideline.
