Pep Rally Kicks off Thanksgiving Weekend

By: Siri Iagnemma

Last Wednesday, the BHS community kicked off Thanksgiving break with the annual pep rally. This year's pep rally amped up school spirit with team awards, killer performances, and new chants.

The rally began with performances from the cheer team, marching band, and color guard. The cheer team showed off their hard work this season by performing a complex routine the team had been working on since the summer. The marching band also brought their spirit with their upbeat renditions of "Counting Stars" and "Come Fly with Me."

In a new addition to the pep rally, the "Maraudees" award was given to its first winners. This award is meant to celebrate clubs and teams showcasing the most school spirit and team community throughout the year. Three clubs and three teams were nominated, and it was no surprise that the energetic girls swim and dive team received an award. A second award went to the Five Minutes Ago team, whose presence in the school is impossible to go unnoticed every Monday afternoon.

One of the most unforgettable moments of the pep rally each year is the inter-grade relay races. Each grade created two teams to battle it out with hopes of advancing to the all-grade final. The theme this year revolved around wacky executions of fall sports, leaving participants dribbling footballs, running in flippers, and setting soccer balls. Against fierce competition of an all-teacher team, the junior class won overall. Their post-race interview showed their confidence, with one team member stating the team felt "no competition."

This year's pep rally brought the spirit like never before thanks to the work of numerous teachers, students and admin. The BHS community cheered on the football team on the 23rd, who came into the Thanksgiving game as Middlesex league champions for the first time in over 30 years with a 5-4 record overall. Continuing their streak, the team defeated Watertown High with a score of 47-0.
